Be On Guard Against Oral Bacteria Causing Swollen Gums

We must be at constant guard against the harmful oral bacteria in every stage of our lives, from the pediatric health all the way into retirement. A great start to prevent bleeding and swollen gums which are the common indications of early gum disease is the constant practice of good oral hygiene. Added to that, one must also avoid dehydration which can lead to a loss of salivation causing bacteria to proliferate. When the mouth is dry, one is at greater risk for developing advanced periodontal disease so be sure to avoid any behaviors that can lead to dehydration, including: smoking, drinking alcohol or any caffeinated products, too much physical exercise, excessive use of laxatives and using dietary supplements.
