Swollen Gums And Other Dental Problems Associated With Tobacco Use

We know that smoking as well as the use of tobacco is bad for our health. But did you know that smoking is also a major contributor to many dental problems like bleeding gums, swollen gums and gum disease. Due to these problems, cigarettes are not the only products to blame. Dental health concerns are posed by all forms of tobacco, including cigars, smokeless tobacco and hookah water pipes. These dental problems that are associated with tobacco use greatly increases the risk for oral cancer, a disease that rapidly progresses and can be deadly when it is not diagnosed and treated early. Tobacco use also increases the risk of gum disease and tooth loss in adults, can slow down the healing process after an oral surgery, can cause damage to gum tissue, receding gums, tooth sensitivity, tooth decay, bad breath and teeth stains and the build up of tartar as well.
